This week, TruthSocial, Donald Trump’s social media platform, announced the launch of Truth+, a streaming platform featuring news and entertainment content, with Newsmax as one of its flagship channels.
Truth+ joins a robust network a right-wing streaming services that expand beyond just news and political content. The Daily Wire offers Daily Wire+, and PragerU has PragerU Kids, both of which feature content specifically geared toward children. There’s also BlazeTV and Fox Nation. Rumble, a video platform that caters to the MAGA Right, might also be lumped in with these platforms.
MSNBC’s Ja'han Jones points out the obvious issue with Trump owning a streaming platform with channels that will cover his Administration as news. Saying that President Trump is now “financially intertwined with a propaganda platform he frequently welcomes into the White House briefing room — an outlet embroiled in a legal fight over falsehoods it aired regarding the 2020 election.” If you’re thinking about Orbán in Hungary or Berlusconi in Italy, you’re not alone. It’s not a stretch to call Truth+ and its partnership with Newsmax a form of state media, even if it isn’t owned by the state.
The launch of Truth+ also comes at a time when the Trump Administration is pressuring media companies like Disney and Paramount over the content of their news divisions through lawsuits and the threat of government investigations, thereby compromising the integrity of their news operations. The Trump regime seeks to control every media outlet that covers him, either through ownership or through corrupt shakedowns.
We should also discuss the right-wing media ecosystem and the scope of what these individuals are creating. Because as I listen to left-of-center consultants and funders argue over whether the left needs our own Joe Rogan or complain that Kamala Harris didn’t do enough podcast interviews, I get frustrated over the lack of imagination (not to mention funding!) our side has to offer. The MAGA Right is building the largest modern media and social media ecosystem that the world has ever seen, incorporating culture and lifestyle content, and audiences that aren’t politically engaged. We don’t have anything close to being able to counter that effort.
I understand why the idea of investing in a new media company might be a tough sell, especially since anything successful will immediately be targeted with lawsuits and investigations from the Trump Regime. However, if you’re interested in dismantling the MAGA Regime and rebuilding a better American Democracy, I don’t think of a better investment than media companies, platforms, and talent. Built to scale.
Let’s call it what it is: not Truth+, but LieTV+withExtraGaslighting.
The MAGAverse didn’t just build a streaming platform—they built a televangelism temple where propaganda gets baptized and monetized. It’s not “state media” in the traditional sense—it’s a hypercapitalist confessional booth where the only sacrament is grievance and the gospel is grievance monetization.
Jesus flipped tables in the temple. Trump sells subscriptions in the sanctuary.
While the Left argues about whether we need a podcast or a puppet show, the Right is handing out mind-control Kool-Aid with a 3-month free trial and branded merch.
This isn’t just about media—it’s about manufacturing reality at scale. And unless the rest of us start funding imagination with the same ferocity they fund delusion, we’ll be stuck watching reruns of The Handmaid’s Tale while they write the sequel in real time.
Blessed be the heretics with broadband.
