Is Renee Nicole Good's son really an orphan if Renee's partner, Debra Good, is still alive? As I understand it, they were raising him together

Nearly all the coverage I've read, which is mostly non-mainstream media, notes that Renee Good was a mother, a "mom." Which makes me wonder: Does this give her death more weight, like the fact that she was white? What if she was a woman of color who, for one reason or another, didn't have kids?

Many of these outlets don't even mention that she had a woman partner, though most of them do mention that she had a late ex-husband -- Gold Star on top of it.

Why are so many news sources, even the left-leaning ones, having such a hard time with this? In 2026, facrissake. I was around when Betty Friedan was freaked out by the "Lavender Menace." That was *decades* ago.

Her son's father had passed away, so yes.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Good being a white woman and mother isn't a catalyst for a lot of the attention this is receiving. In the above article, I linked to an editorial from The Root about that very point. It's also part of what shocks folks into realizing that this can happen to anyone, even people we think of as being safe.
